Chip's Post

A song that we worked on recently really got my attention.  It speaks about the “normal” people that walk around us every day and the secret struggles that they have.  It alludes to the fact that we can never really know to what extent people are struggling and just how bad their sufferings are.  The song, “Give Me Your Eyes” then asks the question, “Why have I never cared?”

As I got stuck in my own struggles this week, I neglected the needs of others.  I couldn’t help but think about how much stuff I hadn’t gotten done and how important I thought my needs were.  In that process I failed to see the needs of those around me.  I failed to find the opportunities that God had placed right before me.  How simple is it sometimes to just give an encouraging word or pray with someone or help someone do something that just needs to be done.

The chorus of that song says this:

Give me Your eyes for just one second

Give me Your eyes so I can see

Everything that I keep missing

Give me Your love for humanity

Give me Your arms for the broken hearted

The ones that are far beyond my reach

Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten

Give me Your eyes so I can see

It is time to take off the blinders and start looking at the world through God’s eyes and not our own.  We have opportunities to share the love of God right next to us and all we have to do is look for them instead of looking past them.  God would love a church to look at the world on their doorstep with His eyes.  Imagine the challenges that we would be faced with and the work that we could do.  Imagine moving past a place where we are worried about the world’s reaction to our mission but being all about “Missio Dei” – God’s mission.  I hope that we can all start asking for His eyes…even if it is for just one second.  I have a feeling that this is all it would take.

In His arms,

Chip
