LCMC MISSION TEAM AND OUR FIRST CHURCH PLANT

Hallelujah!! Reverend Corky Spitler, has arrived to be the Pastor of the LCMC Texas District’s first Mission Church, Springs of Grace, recently “planted” in Dripping Springs! We praise God for this new beginning, as He has been working among us for four years. The Mission Team was informally organized in July, 2006, after St. Paul, Bulverde, gave money to start a mission church in the Hill Country of Texas. Time passed, more congregations became involved, and the formal association of churches known as the Mission Team occurred in June of 2008. We became a licensed not-for-profit entity, the LCMC Texas District, Inc, on April 22, 2009.

Pastor Corky graduated from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 1987 and served his internship at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Juneau, Alaska. He and his wife, Dee, have three children. Forrest is a senior at the University of SC this fall. He is putting himself through college, and his parents are understandably very proud of his tenacity. Seth is in the US Navy and is attending the naval nuclear school in Charleston, SC, so he can become a submariner. Daughter Mikayla is a sophomore at Clemson University, is an honor student on the Dean’s List, and wants to be a scientist. Her Dad is sure she’ll do it! Those of us privileged to have spent time with the Spitler’s are looking forward to having them as “neighbors.”

Yours in Christ’s service,

Barb Geistfeld, Mission Team, Trinity, Blanco

INSTITUTE OF LUTHERAN THEOLOGY

We are now partners with the Institute of Lutheran Theology- ILT for short.  ILT is just now going through it’s accreditation process.  When this is completed certain courses offered through ILT will be accredited for use in college degree programs.  The quote below summarizes what ILT does.

The Institute of Lutheran Theology partners with congregations to train preachers and teachers both to know and proclaim the true gospel of Jesus Christ and to expose the false gospels of the world. Rooted in Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions, ILT gives students the tools to confess and proclaim the good news of Jesus the Christ.

The Institute of Lutheran Theology is an independent, pan-Lutheran theological education project that works with all who share our conviction that God is at work in the world bringing sinners to repentance and new life in Jesus the Christ. Through Internet-based courses and work in a sponsoring congregation, students integrate theological education with pastoral practice.   With a variety of programs, from Pastoral Certification to the more traditional Master of Divinity, ILT seeks to prepare faithful proclaimers of the good news.

In addition to providing theological education for pastors and teachers, the Institute offers a variety of lay courses through the ILT Academy, courses that work extremely well for adult education within congregations.

OSLC will not be able to offer seminarian courses until the Spring, 2011 semester.  But through our ILT Academy partnership we expect to be able to offer “The Word At Work” lay courses to anyone interested.  If anyone is interested in these types of classes please check with Larry Henneke for the course schedule and registration cost.  The Fall course offerings are:  The Rise of World Christianity, Developing a New Start-up Congregation, Growing a Vibrant Youth & Family Ministry, Equipping Parents to be Spiritual Leaders in the Home, and Create In Me a Clean Heart – A Bible Study for Youth (and Parents).
